John Carmichael, known on flyers as J-Element, is a Philadelphia native who started DJing at thirteen after he and a friend pooled their money for a pair of turntables. That first setup turned into a career that has now run more than twenty years.
His musical range makes him a go-to across every kind of event we book. A deep library and sharp ears for what a room actually wants keep the floor busy from the first song to the last.
Alongside performing, John handles operations, which means gear, logistics and crew scheduling all pass through him before a single speaker leaves the shop.

Maryland DJ's, especially Jordan and John Carmichael, were absolutely incredible to work with for my daughter’s Sweet 16! From my very first call with Jordan to go over the event and pricing, to the planning process with our DJ, John Carmichael, and the rest of the team who helped with add‑ons, photo booth prints, and social media, everything was seamless. They made the entire experience so easy. A DJ can truly make or break an event, and ours was amazing because of the DJ. John was out on the dance floor with the kids almost the entire night, keeping the energy high. The uplighting was the perfect touch, and the photo booth was a huge hit. I can’t recommend Maryland DJ's enough, hire them for your next party! If I could give them more than 5 stars I would!
We had an amazing experience with Maryland's DJ! John and Laz did a great job of keeping the momentum going and the party didn't lose energy once which was important to us. We have gotten SO many compliments from guests about the DJing, everyone loved them and had a fantastic time. We also were so pleased with the photo booth (which we initially considered not getting), our guests really loved it and the photos were very high-quality -- as the bride I actually wish I took more! Really great experience working with this team!
22/10 recommend Maryland's DJ!! We worked with DJ John and MC Laz for our wedding and I cannot stress this enough when I say those two knocked it out of the park. They worked with us to make the planning very simple and straight forward. They were super helpful with recommendations for prelude and cocktail hour music. The planning portal was super easy and fun to put together our dream wedding playlist. From the prelude music all the way until the very last song of the night, Laz and John worked with us to execute our vision flawlessly. Now whenever I hear of anyone holding a wedding or event that calls for a DJ, without hesitation I will always recommend, Maryland's DJ! Thank you all again so much for making our special day, the greatest day.
